ACF Gen Sec, Okurounmu differ on APC committee’s recommendations on restructuring

A frontline elder in the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Senator Femi Okurounmu and the General Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Anthony Sani have expressed contrary views over recommendations of the Governor Nasir el-Rufai-led All Progressives Committee (APC) on True Federalism.
Speaking with Sunday Tribune, Sani said he shared the sentiment expressed by President Muhammadu Buhari in his New Year broadcast that the problem of the country was not about its structure or its form of government, but in the collapse of national ideals and moral values.
He opposed the resource control as well as the return to regional system of government with stronger regions and a weak central government saying it would be spark concerns about the dismemberment of the country.
However, Senator Okurounmu said unless the country was restructured with component states having powers to generate their own resources and determine their future, stagnation occasioned by the current unitary constitution would continue to make progress difficult.
Okurounmu described the committee’s recommendations as ploy to con Nigerians of their votes in 2019, saying that the APC-led Federal Government had not intention to restructure the country.
