Why Court Should Set Me Free - Kidnap Kingpin, Evans<br /> <br /> By Estarsblog.com<br /> <img src="http://www.nairaland.com/attachments/6764997_evans2_jpegcb8eda503a8b730cffb72af72e3042dd" /><br /> <br /> Suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans, has asked a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere to quash the two separate charges filed against him by the Lagos State Government.<br /> <br /> Lagos had brought a fresh five-count charge bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder against Evans and three others.<br /> <br /> Evans is charged alongside Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba.<br /> <br /> In the second charge, Evans is being tried alongside Joseph Emeka, Linus Okpara and Victor Aduba.<br /> <br /> At the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, Counsel to the first defendant, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje informed the court that he had filed a motion on notice to quash all the charge filed against the first defendant (Evans).<br /> <br /> In the motion on notice, Ogungbeje said that ‎all the charges and the proof of evidence before the court did not establish any prima facie case against the first defendant.<br /> <br /> He also said that all the charges were “grossly defective, incompetent and constituted an abuse of court processes”.<br /> <br /> He stated that the prosecution had earlier filed similar charges and amended charges bordering on kidnapping against the same first defendant pending before the same High Court of Lagos State.<br /> <br /> He averred that the two separate charges were brought in bad faith to “harass, oppress, hound, frustrate, vex and intimidate the first defendant.”<br /> <br /> “It will be in the interest of justice if all the two separate charges are quashed and the defendant is accordingly discharged.”<br /> <br /> Ogungbeje, however urged the court to ‎adopt the facts as stated in the affidavit in support of the motion on notice.<br /> <br /> ‎In her response to the motion, the State Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, said there was sufficient proof and evidence linking the first defendant to the offences brought before the court.<br /> <br /> Shitta-Bey said that the first defendant was charged with the offence of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping of one Uche Okereafor.<br /> <br /> She also said that other charges filed against the first defendant before other judges involved different defendants, different offences and different victims.<br /> <br /> “This particular charge is premised on Evans involvement in the kidnapping of Okereafor and collecting ransom in the sum of two million dollars from his family.”<br /> <br /> The DPP urged the court to expunge the submission of the first defendant as it constituted opinions, conclusions and argument contrary to Section 115 of the Evidence Act.<br /> <br /> Justice Adedayo Akintoye, after listening to all the arguments, adjourned the case until March 22 for ruling.<br /> <div> <br /></div>

TBS BRT Bus Station: First Time Experience During Rush Hour,<br /> <br /> Last week we asked if TBS Bus Station is the best in terms of structure, facilities, security etc and the answer we got is quite overwhelming. To some, it's a foolish question as there is no basis for comparison, and to some, they felt Ikeja BRT Bus Station stands close to it. We are at Muson Centre for an event and luckily, we closed during the rush hour and decided to take an assessment of our wonderful TBS BRT Bus station and what we see are these:<br /> <br /> 1. The buses were nowhere to be found, once it gets 3pm, its as if the buses went into hiding, we had a chat with one of the security as to what is keeping them and he said they were held up on Eko Bridge, Eko Bridge links from TBS to Costain in the mainland and from Costain up to Jibowu, Onipanu etc so they spend at least 45 to 50mins in traffic which causes the bus station to be full of people.<br /> <br /> 2. There are no official in charge to control the crowd<br /> One would have thought that an official at least should ensure that the queue is maintained and the passengers are line orderly but it seems the officials got tired of standing and they decide to take a stroll<br /> <br /> 3. The ticketers were very rude<br /> I don't know what to call this maybe they were overwhelmed due to the flock of people or maybe they are fasting or they are hungry, the manner at which some of these ticketers attend to people is below par as it seems they have found a clique to be rude to passengers. While we understand that people are difficult to please especially Lagosians, at least some decorum ought to be put in place to explain yourself and also made them understand you have no smaller denominations.<br /> <br /> 4. Refreshment<br /> I noticed it was boldly written that sellers, hawkers were not allowed in the park but someone would have expected that an alternative will be provided, we stood for almost 30mins and yours truly was seriously hungry, we have no choice than to stroll out and get something outside the premises. In as much as we support the motion, those lock up kiosk should be open for business to cater for these needs.<br /> <br /> 5. Maintenance of the bus<br /> While we give kudos to the operator of the fleet of the BRT for doing an excellent job in making sure the buses were always neat and also making sure passengers have a stress free journey, we felt its time they start thinking of ways to curb the water on the roof of the buses and this is a result of the AC in the bus, but apart from that they did well in that area.<br /> <br /> Above all, we will rate them 70%<br /> <img src="http://www.nairaland.com/attachments/6767758_whatsappimage20180223at1_40_35am1_jpeg_jpega126a77acc9415162f7dd2d66e213ccf" /><br /> <div> <br /></div>

Lagos, Kano Govts Agree On Economic Partnership<br /> <br /> <br /> Channels Television<br /> Updated March 1, 2018<br /> <img src="http://www.nairaland.com/attachments/6768002_de_jpege0aec8c491eb290c7ec3f0482ace2d1b" /><br /> <br /> The Lagos and Kano state governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for economic partnership and to jointly explore investment opportunities in both states.<br /> <br /> The MoU, which was signed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos) and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) on Thursday, is aimed at creating jobs and facilitating growth and development.<br /> <br /> It also seeks to create a common platform for exploring, expanding and developing areas of economic development and investment.<br /> <br /> The governors signed the agreement at the closing ceremony of the inaugural Lagos-Kano Economic and Investment Summit in Lagos.<br /> <br /> Under the agreement, the two states have also set up a Technical Working Group to oversee the implementation of the objectives of the MoU.<br /> <br /> In her closing remarks at the summit, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, said the signing of the MoU by the governor was a clear testament of the commitment of both states to collaborate in the overall best interest of the people.<br /> <br /> She said the leaders, by the development, “are telling the entire world that collaboration, cooperation, partnership can always work to bring about economic sufficiency in our states and, of course, the entire nation.”<br /> <br /> While describing the summit as historic and successful, Adebule said the programme witnessed presentations from experts, erudite minds, scholars from both public and organised private sector with numerous positions expressed and outlined.<br /> <br /> “In this process, our minds have been availed with torrents of ideas, information, statistics, interpretation and above all vision and collaboration leading to economic sufficiency,” she said in a statement by the chief press secretary to Governor Ambode, Habib Aruna.<br /> <br /> “I am convinced that the most valuable outcome of this engagement is the fact that we have governors who have a vision and have the opportunity of sharing this vision. Today, we are not just sharing the vision but providing an enabling environment for this vision to be actualised,” the deputy governor added.<br /> <br /> According to the MoU, Lagos and Kano states agreed to expand the current level of economic and investment cooperation between them, especially in key areas of governance, security, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), agricultural value chain, tourism, education, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as well as skills development.<br /> <br /> Other areas include commerce with a specific focus on ease of doing business and infrastructure in power, transportation, and urban waste management.<br /> <br /> The objectives of the MoU, among others, are to establish a formal and flexible framework between both states to expand trade and investment cooperation, foster scientific and technological collaboration for business development in emerging key sectors, strengthen communication, enhance trust, boost economic development and create jobs.
