Chelsea defeated Newcastle 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, January 28, to book a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup as they returned to winning ways after their midweek exit from the Carabao cup in the hands of Arsenal.
The Blues who have been struggling for form since the start of the new year, secured the FA Cup fifth round ticket thanks to a brace from Michy Batshuayi and another strike coming from the boot of Marcos Alonso.
Antonio Conte's men struggled to creates a lot of chances in the game but made the best of the few they had.
And after a scoreless 30 minutes, Chelsea got the first goal in the 31st minute through Michy Batshuayi who tapped home from close range after being set up by Marcos Alonso.
The Belgian doubled Chelsea's lead in the 44th minutes after Pedro and Hazard exchanged passes before the latter played in Batshuayi who made no mistake from close range.
Alonso secured victory for Chelsea in the second half after bending a freekick past the wall and away from Darlow into the top corner.
That was the left-back's seventh goal of the season as he has also recorded three assists. He is now the first defender in the league to register at least 10 goal involvements in all competitions this season.
The victory sees Chelsea progress into the FA Cup fifth round as the competition looks like their only shot for a trophy this season.
Conte's men were eliminated by Arsenal in the Carabao cup semi final, have a tough Champions League round of 16 tie against in-form Barcelona and currently lie 15 points behind league leaders Man City.
