Ahead of the 2019 general elections in the country, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Adiza Bala Usman on Thursday charged Nigerian youths to shun all divisive tendencies but devote their time and energy towards changing the narrative of the political landscape in the country.
Usman gave this charge in Lagos at the opening of a three-day Leadership Training organised by the United Action for Change, tagged: “The Role of Youth in Building a United Nigeria.”
She stressed the need for the youths to demonstrate their enormous talents and experience required to take up leadership role and guard against religious and political sentiments that could derail their plans for the country.
According to the NPA boss, the youths must first believe in themselves as the future of the country, saying their dreams would only be realized with the ‘never say die spirit.’
Usman said as the youths were over half of the nations population, it would not be out of place for them to rally round one of their own and show they could take charge and responsibility when occasion demanded for it.
Narrating her experience in politics,  Usman explained that she never allowed her gender to work against her despite contesting for the House of Representatives at the age of 31.
She commended the organiser of the programme for what she called redirection of the mind set of the youths to positive and meaningful endeavors that would engender them to contribute their quota to the future of the country.
On his part, the Convener of the United Action for Change, Dr. Muiz Banire said he was delighted with the resounding achievements of some of the youths that had passed through the training.
According to him, the ultimate goal of the group was to position the youths as the true future leaders of the country.
Over hundred youths are taking part in the three-day leadership training.
