Man remanded over alleged possession of locally-made pistol
A 32-year-old man, Kabiru Jimoh, was on Thursday remanded in prison by an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly being in possession of a locally-made pistol.
The accused, who gave no fixed address, was remanded by Magistrate Wahab Balogun after he refused the plea of the accused.
He said the accused should remain in prison pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).
The accused was docked on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and unlawful possession of a locally-made pistol.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Mary Ajiteru, said that the accused was arrested by officers of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), at Ipakodo Base in Ikorodu while he attempted to snatch a tricycle.
Ajiteru said, “The accused and others who are still at large, on June 3, had in their possession three locally-made pistols at Idiroko Community in Ikorodu at 11.30 p.m.
“They were about to snatch a tricycle from the complainant, Mr Ismaila Rahaman, when he shouted for help.
“The others ran away but the accused was apprehended by the SARS officers who found a locally-made pistol on him when he was searched.”
Ajiteru said the offences contravened the Special Provision Act, Cap 398, Vol. XX11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria as amended, and Sections 411 and 299 Criminal Law of of Lagos State, 2015.
